NFL Pick Six Week 5

Cardinals vs. Rams

I think Cardinals luck is going to run out in this game.  Cardinals barely held off the Miami Dolphins last week winning 24-21. The Rams are coming off an impressive win over the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams looked good week one against the Lions and beat a pretty good Washington Redskins team. I think the Bradford and Amendola connection is going to be strong and lead the Rams to a victory. I think Jeff Fisher will throw some defensive schemes that will confuse Kevin Kolb and force some turnovers.

Final Score: 27-17 Rams Win

Steelers vs. Eagles

I underestimated the Eagles last week and I might be doing it again this week. The Eagles squeaked out another close victory against the Giants. Their offensive line was surprisingly very well against an elite defensive line. However, I got to go with the Steelers in this one. I think Big Ben has got Todd Haley’s offense down and they will move the ball down the field with ease. I think the return of Mendenhall should be a big help and could possibly make this offense two dimensional. I think Steelers will be ready to go coming fresh off the bye week.

Final Score: 31-20 Steelers Win

Panthers vs. Seahawks

This is a battle between two teams that have shown flashes of excellence and inconsistency. Panthers are coming off a close loss to the undefeated Falcons, while the Seahawks have shown they can beat the Packers or lose to the Rams. Cam Newton had a bounce back game last week just like I predicted, but I think this Seattle defense will give him more problems then he handle. I really believe the Panthers are a better team then their record suggests, but I don’t see them winning this game either.

Final Score: 23-20 Seahawks Win

Broncos vs. Patriots

Ahh! At least we get to see the Tom Brady and Peyton Manning rivalry again. Peyton Manning will be looking to bring his new team into Gillette Stadium and beat his arch-rival. Tom Brady and this Patriots just exploded last week putting up over 50 points against the Bills. I expect the Bronco’s defense to contain Tom Brady’s offense a lot better then Bills were able to. I think Peyton Manning is going to look to show everyone he still belongs in the discussion of the elite quarterbacks today. I think Peyton Manning will throw for 4 touchdowns for the first time as a Bronco and lead his new team to a big victory.

Final Score: 35-31 Broncos Win

Chargers vs. Saints

Whenever the Saints are involved you can always expect a shoot-out. I expect Phillip Rivers to have a big game so I expect you all to be starting him if you got him on your fantasy teams. I think the Saints are inching closer and closer to finally getting into the win column and with Sproles and Brees playing their old teams, this is the game they do it. I expect 2 total touchdowns from Sproles and 100 yards. This should be one of the most exciting games to watch this week, unless your a fan of defense that is.

Final Score: 38-35 Saints Win

Vikings vs. Titans

If you want to call this an upset pick then be my guest, but I got the Titans beating a slightly overrated Vikings team. The Vikings have beat the Jaguars, caught the 49er’s by surprise, and beat a Lions team that still isn’t aware the season has started. It’s a team that also lost to the Indianapolis Colts but people seem to be so high on them because they beat San Fransisco. I think Matt Hasselback will come into this game and help prove my point. I think the Vikings secondary is toward the bottom in the NFL and Ponder is to inconsistent to be considered a good quarterback.

Final Score: 28-24 Titans Win

NFL Pick Six

Lions vs. Vikings

This game will most likely ride on the health of Detroit’s quarterback, Matthew Stafford. If he is cleared to play then Lions high flying offense should be to much for the Vikings sub-par to handle. The Vikings are coming off a huge upset win over the San Francisco 49er’s. The Vikings offense looked very efficient against the best defense in the looked and I expect the Vikings to be moving the ball with ease against a Lion’s defense that let the Titans put up 44 points. I expect a big fantasy day for Percy Harvin and Christain Ponder.

Final Score: 38-35 Lions Win

Cowboys vs. Bears

This is a very interesting match-up because I think both these teams have the potential to be Super Bowl contenders but are just to inconsistent to really be considered elite teams. I think Cowboys wins have obviously been a lot more impressive thus far. Their offense didn’t look good at all against the Seahawks but that’s the same defense that sacked Aaron Rodgers 8 times. I believe this is gonna be a low scoring game as both offenses will struggle moving the ball down the field.

Final Score: 14-10 Cowboys Win

Packers vs. Saints

This could be one of the highest scoring games of the season. Saints defense has not been able to slow down any offense. Packers are going to be coming out of the gate with a chip on their shoulder. They are Super Bowl favorites who are currently 1-2 and coming off that loss against the Seahawks because of that disastrous call. I hope Drew Brees and the Saints offense can keep up with the Packers just so it can be an exciting game to watch.

Final Score: 44-34 Saints Win

49ers vs. Jets

Even without Darelle Revis, this should be another battle of the defenses. Luckily for 49er fans the loss of Revis will be more than enough to give the 49er’s defense the edge in this one. I think Jets offense will turn the ball over in bunches as the Jet’s fans will start the “Tebow” chant. If Frank Gore and the 49er’s running game can get going early on then the passing game will open up and it will be an easy win.

Final Score: 27-16 Win

Giants vs. Eagles

In a rivalry game anything can happen and its a very important game for these divisional foes. However, I think this is going to be all Giants in this one. Eagles have not been looking good so far this season and easily could be 0-3. Giants have an elite pass defense that will force Michael Vick to make bad decisions and turn the ball over. The turnover ratio for both teams thus far this season tells you all you need to know for how this game will turn out. The Giants have a +4 and Eagles have a -6 turnover ratio.

Final Score: 31-20 Giants Win

Falcons vs. Panthers

This is my upset pick of the week. I think Falcons are the second best team behind the Texans in my opinion but I think the Panthers are going to play way above their heads. Panthers are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Giants and will look to make a statement against their division foe. I think Falcons are going to struggle with the versatility of Cam Newton. I think Cam Newton turns it around after struggling the first three games of the season.

Final Score: 34-31 Panthers Win

Sleepless Controversy in Seattle

Clearly M.D. Jennings has possession of the ball before it being ripped away by Golden Tate.

Sports have always taught people valuable lessons such as teamwork, trying your best, and to never give up. After this weekend in the NFL we can chalk up one more important lesson to that list. What might that lesson be you ask? Well, we are all being taught to be thankful for what you got because you don’t know what you got until it’s gone. I of course would be referring to the referees with this lesson.

I remember growing up my whole life hearing fans complaining how “the zebras were blowing the game” or yelling, “you forget your glasses today ref!?” Controversial calls have always been apart of sports and always will be. Let’s face it, referees are human to and will always make mistakes. However, the replacement refs we have been dealt with, resulting from the NFLRA on strike, are just plain embarrassing. They are definitely making everyone appreciate the old refs we all quite frankly took for granted.

In case you have been under that rock and haven’t had the chance to view this play, here is the play heard round the world.

The NFL community has witnessed one call after another that just leaves the viewer dumbfounded and possibly even in shock. The most recent controversy of course was the end of the Seattle Seahawks vs. Green Bay Packers Monday Night Football match-up. The biggest question was whether M.D. Jennings or Golden Tate came down with the ball. The final call was Golden Tate came down with the touchdown reception which gave the Seahawks the victory of course. This call is causing smoke to be coming out all the replacement refs critics ears. And with good reason, it was an awful call, especially at that stage of the ball game. However, the thing really grinding my gears is the ref being totally oblivious to Tate’s sneaky blatant shove of Sam Shield right before the miraculous “touchdown catch.” This offensive pass interference should have been called and that should of been the ball game. There should not even be a debate whether Tate or Jennings came down with the ball!

Even though the Packers did royally get screwed out of a no-brain call at the end of the game, we can’t all just be jumping on this bandwagon that Seahawks shouldn’t get the win. The Seahawks played one hell of a game and deserved to win this game every bit as much the Packers did. I have always thought, “if you would of played better the rest of the game, it wouldn’t have had to come down to the last call.” It is so unfortunate the fact the Seahawks’ 8 sacks on Aaron Rodgers is completely overshadowed by the refs. Chris Clemons got 4 sacks… all in the first half! If the Packers O-line would have played better throughout the game it would probably mean this play wouldn’t have happened, and we would be talking about the Packers being 2-1.

Unfortunately, what happens happens and we can’t go back and change it now. It’s time to give the Seahawks some credit for the victory and just pray the NFL and NFLRA can settle their negotiations, and settle it fast. As a NFL fan I don’t think I can watch these refs who are clearly not qualified to be reffing these games under these types of pressures to continue reffing. If and when the real NFL referees comeback, please be grateful for them. However, their still going to make those stinky calls we have all grown accustomed too, but it’s not necessary to call them skunks, cause we have all learned how much worse they can actually get.

NFL Pick Six

Tom Brady of the New England Patriots exchanging a few words with Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium

Each week I will pick the six most intriguing match-ups in the NFL and tell you exactly how I believe the game will play out.

Ravens vs. Patriots

This is my game of the week as two super bowl contenders square off in what could very well be a preview of the AFC championship game. The New England Patriots will be looking to bounce back after a shocking loss to the Arizona Cardinals. However, the Ravens are coming off a tough loss of their own against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Patriots will showcase one of the most lethal offenses, even without Aaron Hernadez, into M&T Bank Stadium to face the Ravens stellar defense. I expect Tom Brady and this offense to perform a lot better than the previous two games. However, I believe the Ravens defense will be too much for Brady and company to keep up.

Final Score: 27-24 Ravens Win

Broncos vs. Texans

Peyton Manning struggled in the spotlight last week against the Falcons early on in the game. If he can manage to get out to a fast start without the interceptions I think the Broncos have a great chance to pull this game out. However, Wade Phillips has that Texans defense looking pretty damn good after two games. The defense is probably not even what has been keeping John Fox up at night going into this match-up with the Texans. It the Texans offense led by Arian Foster and Andre Johnson that will propel the Texans to a 3-0 start in the 2012 season.

Final Score: 31-20 Texans Win

Packers vs. Seahawks

Seahawks loss to the Cardinals was a bit of a shocker and led few to believe that perhaps Seattle isn’t ready to contend for a playoff spot. However, in week two the Cardinals beating Super Bowl favorites, New England Patriots, and the Seahawks just absolutely dominated the Dallas Cowboys. So maybe it was a little pre-mature to get down on Seattle. Seahawk’s defense is definetly not at the same level as the 49er’s but we have already witnessed that the Packers offense is stoppable. Also, if Frank Gore can put up over a 100 yards and a touchdown against the Packer D then I surely suspect Marshawn Lynch will be able to duplicate those numbers. In the end I think Seahawks defense will slow down the Packers enough to let the Seahawks escape with a surprising victory against the Packers.

Final Score: 27-20 Seahawks Win

Eagles vs. Cardinals

I mentioned earlier about the Cardinals 2-0 start, and they have looked real good so far. However, I think the Eagles will be able to squeak out another tight victory. Maclin being out will allow some extra coverage on Eagles leading reciver, Brent Celek, however I think Vick will be in vintage form in this one. I don’t expect Vick to turn the ball over as much in this one and I expect McCoy to have that huge game all his fantasy owners have been praying for.

Final Score: 28-27 Eagles Win

Chargers vs. Falcons

The undefeated Chargers host the undefeated Atlanta Falcons which should out to be an exciting game. I think the Chargers will put up a tough fight early on but will not be able to keep up with the Atlanta Falcons. I think the Atlanta Falcons are one of the best all-around teams in the NFL right now. Their biggest weakness is perhaps their running game as it seems like Michael “the burner” Turner is burnt out. However, I think this is the game where the Falcons offense will turn to Jacquizz Rodgers to carry the load at halfback as the offense turns into a pass first, pass second, and even pass third team. Rodgers should have a breakout performance and Matt Ryan will continue to stay red-hot. The Falcon’s pass defense showed what it can do last week against future hall of famer Peyton Manning, and I expect them to get multiple picks on Rivers as well. Ryan Mathews return will be the only way their offense will be able to put up any points.

Final Score: 41-17 Falcons Win

Redskins vs. Bengals

This match-up doesn’t feature any teams I would consider Super Bowl contenders but it provides some other interesting story lines. I think it’s going to be very interesting to see how Robert Griffin plays against a defense that isn’t considered one of the worsts in the league. RG3 has looked like a seasoned veteran out on the field so far but that has been against the Saints and Rams. I think this will be the game that Griffin plays like the rookie he actually is. However, I also think Griffin will have an early career defining moment. I can definitely see him making some rookie mistakes early on in the game and causing his team to fall behind. In the end, I think Griffin will lead the Redskins to a late comeback thriller.

Final Score: 34-31 Redskins Win
